Since 2011, I've been handling the User Experience at Holistic Wellness, LLC. I've been passionate about maintaining a holistic perspective of how a user feels when interacting with our systems and then building (and re-building) the solutions they are looking for. Since UX is such a broad field, let me be specific about the areas I spend the most time in: Strategy, User Research, Usability, Information Architecture, Interaction Design, Service Design, Front-End and Product Development. Most recently, I've added a deeper understanding of coding to the mix by building Full Stack apps on the side. As technology continues to eat the world, I want to help make sure that it works for people rather than simply consumes us.

Case Studies

Healthcare iPhone App
[Research & Design]

Problem: Currently, members' digital interactions are spread out across multiple emails, online shops and Google Docs.

Approach: Using Basalmiq, a mockup of an app designed to tie all Holistic Wellness' members' disparate health information and practice-related digital interactions in one place was shown to 5 current members. Then using Sketch, clickable prototypes were used to refine the functionality

Results: Initial research indicated that Dr. Naumes' clients were excited about the app as a place to keep all health and billing information in one central place, but would tend to use only a few of the proposed features. User Research also provided the idea for two previously unconsidered features - "Message with Doctor" and "Refer a Friend". Testing showed that using the app to (in some cases) point to URLs outside of the app limited some of the benefits of pulling all the functions into an app in the first place.

Impact: Several features were removed and others added. The use of modals will be incorporated into the UI in order to keep users inside the app after completeing tasks outside of the app.

Rate That Dev
[Design+Web Development]

Problem: LinkedIn recommendations skew positive - “you scratch my back, I scratch yours” mentality - without a safe place to be honest about co-workers' weaknesses. Soft Skills are undervalued; LinkedIn and similar services inadequately captures personality, work culture, and fit. Only Devs who have already worked with other Devs really know who can do what.

Approach: I conceived of a an app to allow Developers to rate each other anonymously and for recruiters to find them. My team of 4 developers built the MERN stack app to demo to eight recruiters using guerilla research to make sure we built the right features. I was personally responsible for UX/UI, product management and presentation.

Results: Decision makers were excited about our app but looking additionally to: (1) View a VIDEO of developers actually presenting an idea or feature and (2) be able to perform BOOLEAN SEARCHES when searching for candidates (ex: Search 'React' OR 'Angular').

Impact: The above two additional features will be implemented in the next stage of development.

[Information Architecture]

Objective: Determine if the website's navigation is intuitive for its intended audience.

Approach: Online card sort with 30 participants to test whether Holistic Wellness' existing website IA is well organized for user experience.

Results: Selected participants matching our current user base (female, 21-45, college educated) organized our IA much the same way as we anticipated, with a few notable exceptions.

Reccomendation: Consider adding a Payment URL linking to Scheduling page into the footer which currently contains Notice of Privacy Practices and Disclaimer. Meal Plans should be moved out of Shop and into Services. Consider renaming Condition Specific Packages as users mistake this product as something related to Books.d
